Traditional Approaches

My daughter once questioned why I had so many healings? “Wasn’t I fixed yet?” she asked. If these were traditional doctor visits, she never would have questioned the number of trips that I made.  Visiting an allopathic doctor is seldom questioned as it is the societal norm.  What is the difference then between curing and healing?

According to Webster’s Dictionary, to cure means to provide “a method of medical treatment,” while to heal means “to make or to become well.” The words, similar in nature are separated by intent.

Is there a Difference?

When you “become” ill and go to an allopathic doctor, your body’s vital signs are checked; you may also receive a shot or prescription for what ails you.  The implication is that some external situation has manifested as disease, your symptom is then treated or drugged until the condition is cleared.  In a few minutes, you are out the door and on your own.  You will probably repeat this method of symptom-based recovery more than once in your lifetime.  While there is a time and place for this type of treatment, such as setting broken bones or life-saving surgery, there are other ways to achieve wellness.

When you visit a healer, such as a Reiki practitioner, your aura is read in search of the internal situation that is causing the dis-ease.  Dis-ease unexpressed, manifests itself in your physicality.  The healer’s focus is to help you remove the root cause.  Ultimately, your general sense of self and accompanying physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies are integrated and returned to wholeness.  The condition that is released may have been within you for more than one lifetime, the related memory may have been triggered by a conversation or a relationship at work or in your personal life and so on.  Instead of believing that these physical conditions need to be medicated, the healer gives you the opportunity to rise to a higher level and let your dis-ease or dis-stress go.  Let me give you an example.

Healing Results

A client came to me with middle back pain; after scanning her aura, I detected confusion, guilt and the inability to trust.  She was recently widowed from an abusive spouse who she lived with for 20+ years.  Working on her issues, I restored wellness in her second and third chakras.  I helped her let go of her mental/emotional distress and as a result, her middle back pain disappeared.  She left my table smiling and feeling calmer than she had in years.

A Healer's Focus

Working with a Reiki practitioner, you may see physical conditions disappear as you regain wholeness.  Detaching from the original problem can result in attaining a state of grace that guides you to forgive and accept what you could not before.  The healer’s ultimate aim is to return you to wellness, so you may live without pain, guilt, disharmony, etc. What are we holding onto anyway? Old memories, past hurts languish within our smaller mind (ego) and bring havoc to our peaceful state.  Releasing whomever you have conflict with removes you from the pressures of revenge upon yourself, i.e., dis-ease.

From a healer’s perspective, life is lived from the inside out rather than the reverse. Taking this stance means accepting that you are responsible for every aspect, thought, word, and deed of your life.  It requires discipline, an adamant refusal to be drawn into the infinite number of disagreements that take place around you each day.  You are challenged to respond anew in each present moment, instead of reverting back to patterned thinking.

The reward is worthwhile; as you will be functioning on a higher level and living without pain.  This may take several incarnations to achieve, but it is well worth it.

Take yourself lightly and be well, there is no disease in the higher realms.
